rivet

Humans have always required secure ways to bind various items together. A bolts is a nifty tool that aids this: A rivet is a type of metal fastener that resembles a nail. One end has a big, round head, which is the part you can see easily, and the other end is long and thin — this is the part that goes into the holes of the materials you want to connect.

Then you insert the thin end of the rivet through the first hole you made. Then you stick the same end through the second hole. This ensures the rivet passes through both materials.

A beginner's guide.

You then take a hammer and softly tap the head of the nuts and bolt. This causes it to flatten out and thus it tightly binds the two things together. The rivet is stuck in place, and it won’t pry out easily.

Unlike glue or other adhesives, which only stick, rivets are unique in that once you apply them, you cant take them apart. They do not connect two pieces of metal together, however; they sound a powerful mechanical bond between them. Rivets are ideal for extremely heavy jobs, such as constructing sturdy bridges or large ships. So when you see a bridge, you can be sure there are as many rivets in holding it up!
